?She?s beauty for my ashes. And I?m hope for her heartache.??Cole Danzer

Pocketful-of-Sand250

I don?t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don?t know. I don?t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other?s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine?ours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Five Holy Shit Stars!

Momma's Review

I've always had a love of dark romances so when I heard about this new anthology, Sinister Desires, I practically tripped over myself to get a copy.  I plan on reading each and every book included in this set but today I'm going to give my review of the first three I had a chance to read.  And I can tell you, if all of the books are as good as the first 3 I've read then this set is worth every fucking penny!

I first read Captive in the dark by CJ Roberts almost 2 years ago and it was the book that started my love of dark romance novels and is still standing as my favorite series of all time.  I mean come on......it's Caleb.....yummy!  I decided to re-read it from this set and yup, it's totally still my favorite!  The second book I chose to read was Empathy by Ker Dukey.  I had no idea what a freaking amazing author I had been missing out on all this time!  The book was fabulous and Ker Dukey has a permanent spot on my must read author list.  So of course the third book I chose was Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom.  Holy Shit!  These ladies know how to write.

I can't recommend this anthology enough.  If you love dark reads then you must go one click RIGHT NOW!  But please, heed the warnings on this series.  It is dark and some book push boundaries on taboo.  It happens to be my favorite genre but it's not for everyone!

Captive in The Dark by CJ Roberts
(review originally published 4/20/13)

Where to start with this book?!? Ok, I totally loved it, and I'm not ashamed to say it....well maybe a little ;) I picked up Captive in the Dark one night while having a one-click problem and knew absolutely nothing about it. I think I'm glad I didn't because I may have been hesitant to start it and missed the awesome sexiness that is Caleb! He's mean, he's hot, he's caring, he's dominant, he's pissed off and in his odd way he's loving. Which is not what I expected from him at all.

I feel like I shouldn't have liked it, like I shouldn't have been rooting for her to stay...seriously! Every part of my female brain should have been screaming RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND NEVER LOOK BACK, but every bone in my body wanted her to stay, to see what he would do next, to see where it would lead! And I wasn't disappointed.

Empathy by Ker Dukey

I absolutely LOVE a twisting plot line and that was exactly what I got with Empathy!  From the start of the book I fell in love with the authors writing style, it seemed to flow so well and her POV from each different character was spot on.  The story is on the shorter side at right around 200 pages but it made for an amazing, quick moving read that left me wanting more immediately after.  I was even more excited to find out that the second book in the series came out just after I finished reading so I totally one clicked that bitch!  Oh and did I mention the heat in this book?  Holy hot car sex batman!  You will not be left disappointed with this one!

Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom

Ok...seriously?  I haven't been this freaked out while reading a book since the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig.  Every time you think you have the damn thing figured out you get slapped in the face again.  I'm one of those readers that is constantly trying to figure out the next move, the problem is that sometimes I can ruin an ending for myself... I was COMPLETLY blindsided this time!  Façade was absolutely brilliant.  I couldn't tell who was crazier...the characters or me after reading this book!

Synopsis:

Stella Brady was the epitome of indulgence. With a history of seducing gorgeous men, wrecking hotel rooms and provoking scandalous rumors, fame rewarded her extravagant behavior. Nothing was off limits when it came to gratifying her desires, except the one thing she craved most of all-anonymity.
In a strange twist of fate, a tragic accident robs Stella of all memories past the age of seventeen and she must reconcile the person she has become with the phantom of who she is supposed to be.
Trapped in a limbo of his own, Navy officer Julian Moreau has taken leave and returned to his childhood home in order to care for his dying mother. Growing restless with a life on hold, nothing could prepare him for the impossible. Stella Brady had returned to Mooresville.
Despite a decade of separation and hopeless circumstances, neither is able to deny the irresistible attraction and connection they share. As each layer of the past unravels, they must decide if falling in love could lead to a lifetime of happiness, or one worth forgetting.

Momma's Review

I was so excited when I was offered a chance to be one of the first people to read Forgetting by J.L. Brooks.  Not only is she one of my favorite authors but she is also one of my favorite people in this crazy book world, so of course I jumped at the chance.  To say that I have been in a reading funk would be an understatement.  I haven't been able to complete a book in over 6 months :::gasp::: but this book just blew through all of my reading barriers and gave me my love of reading back not only that but I wanted to blog again!

Forgetting is one of those books that no matter what your mood you'll find yourself getting sucked in.  My absolute favorite fact was that it was so real.  I never felt like the characters were being forced to do what the author wanted but instead it flowed beautifully and felt authentic.  It really truly is a great adult romance read.  And that ending...gah...talk about not seeing that coming!  I may or may not have sent her nasty gram after that one.

It's not just a romance novel and it's not just about finding ones self after getting off course, it's a wonderful merge of both.  We get to see Stella grow in so many ways and finally see things for what they really are, not how she had perceived them.

Forgetting by J.L. Brooks is a brilliantly written story of love, loss and finding your way home.

Momma's Reccomendation

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good romance novel with second chance love.  The steam factor is there but it isn't a  "smutty" book by any means.  Just enough sex to keep you excited but not too much!

Fifty Shades of Grey Offical Movie Trailer

After months of speculation, hundreds of fan made videos and many of us freaking out just to find out who the main characters were going to be played by we finally have our trailer!

Don't read the following until you've watched the trailer (and yes you have to sit through a short commercial)

No Really, go watch the trailer!!!!

Did you watch it yet???

I feel like I should scream SPOILER ALERT, but it's not really!  I mean come on, I'm a reviewer by nature so of course I'm going to review the trailer.  Did I like the trailer....yes. But here's my issue, I think I was a little too excited to see it.  Does that make sense?  Like no matter how mind blowing the trailer it wouldn't live up to the hype.  Yes I enjoyed it, but the opening scene with Anastasia Steele walking out of the elevator into Grey headquarters felt uncomfortable.  And I know, these are bits and pieces of a 2 hour movie shoved into less than 2.5 minutes, but even then it felt like there needed to be more.  You do get more at the end, it's that few seconds of hot that we were all looking for to find out if it was going to live up to the books.  I've watched it over and over, I've tried to pinpoint the things I liked and didn't like to figure out what my brain is actually thinking.

The opening scene with Anastasia and Christian made me cringe a bit, it seems they made Anastasia a bit more meek and shy than I had her out to be in my mind.

The glimpse of the elevator scene and the glider scene made me giggle with glee, amazing how even after reading the book over a year ago I can spot those exact points in the book.

The last few seconds, I was too busy watching to count how long it lasted, made me curse the wait until release!

And if you didn't watch the interview with Dakota and Jamie after the trailer was over go back to the top and do it!  Talk about AKWARD!  I've never seen two actors seem so uncomfortable on set.  We've seen Jamie Dornan in hundreds of interviews and he's so incredibly relaxed and sexy.  But this interview made me squrim, and not in a good way.  The interaction between the lead actors has me seriously biting my nails because if they have that little chemistry on screen, if Dakota is that quiet and shy during an interview, how in the HELL is this going to work!!!!

So...What did you think?

6 Fucking Insane Stars!

 Momma's Review

I seriously don't even know where to start with this book.  I was on the verge of uploading 100 gifs just to try and explain how I felt while reading this story, but even then it didn't seem to do it justice.  I'll start by saying that I am so in love with Karina Halle that it she hadn't recently gotten married I would be begging her to marry me!  From the moment I started Sins & Needles last year I was hooked and knew that I would be a fangirl forever.

Ok....I'm feeling better now.  When I first heard that Karina Halle was going to tell Javier's story in Dirty Angels I wasn't sure how I felt.  At first I was excited but then I started to get nervous.  We've all seen it happen before, an author has a successful series and then does a spinoff that isn't quite as good, something is just lacking. Karina Halle knocked this one over the fucking fence.  She took a character who, while a prominent character, was a bit of a conundrum in the previous books (yes I know, not including On Every Street).  We knew who he was, knew why Ellie hated him and loved him, knew the kind of person he was.  But we only got a glimpse of what he was really made of.  In Dirty Angels you finally get to see all of Javier, his need to control, his pain, his crazy thoughts.  And I absolutely fell in love with him all over again.

Can you tell that I absolutely LOVED this book?  It's the first book in a very long time that I haven't found a damn thing wrong with a book.  I'm trying so hard to write a well thought and eloquent review but all my brain is saying is Squeeeeeeee!

Momma's Reccomendation:

Ok, so I can admit that I have a problem.  I love fucked up characters.  I love the kidnappers, the murders, the tattooed covered MC badass.....but I'm ok with that!  And here's the thing, many people don't know what to expect with this book.  Did Karina Halle push the envelope, YES!  But I really don't think that she took it too far.  Everything in the book absolutely needed to happen, every gory, bloody detail needed to happen.  If you are not a fan of dark and disturbing then I can easily say proceed with caution. But if you happen to be like me, and like books like Captive in the Dark or Tears of Tess than I can easily recommend this book!

Momma's Favorite Quotes:

“But I saw nothing in her except this fire that burned deep within her eyes. I wanted to taste that fire on my lips, I wanted to fuck it with my dick. I wanted to feel it in every way I could. I wanted to bring the fire out of her.”
― Karina Halle, Dirty Angels

“He wore a mask of elegance and indifference, his unusually handsome features taking on the appearance of a sculpture. But I had no idea what the artist was trying to say: Here’s a man in denial? Here’s a man without a soul? Here’s a man who will build empires and legacies, whose pride shaped the land? Or here is a man who for once in his life, doesn’t know who he is?”

4 holy suspense stars!

Momma's Review

I had the pleasure of meeting the author, Emerson Shaw, at the Cincy Author Event last month and I absolutely loved her.  So when I had chance to read her debut novel, Acts of Desperation, I couldn't pass it up.

Acts of Desperation is a great story, filled with suspense, drama, romance and a bit of heat to spice things up!  I absolutely fell in love with the characters and once I started reading I just couldn't seem to put the book down.  I needed to know what was going to happen next.  The story follows the main characters, Sember and Jax, but is also intertwined with the story of Sarah and her Narcisisstic asshole of a husband, Anders.  This was the part that really sucked me in.  The back and forth between all of the characters, the suspense of finding out who the real villain was and the surprise of a mysterious past all come together perfectly to keep you involved in the story from start to finish.

The book is inspired by true events, which the author describes in the end of the book.  But knowing that really intrigued me, especially after meeting the basis for Sarah's character.  It really made me want to dig in deeper.

The Heroine

Sember

I absolutely loved Sember.  She's strong, smart and funny...my favorite things in a strong female lead.  When things go bad she stands up for herself and her family.  I only wish she would have had a chance to punch Anders in the face!  Because that asshole deserved it!  Not to mention I never once had to scream at my kindle "come on girl...get your shit together and stop whining!"

The Hero

Jax

Where do I start with Jax!  He's the perfect book boyfriend.  He's sweet, sexy, caring, helpful and a little bit alpha when absolutely necessary.  The way that he takes charge in certain situations made me love him even more.  I did want to smack him a little bit at one point, but doesn't that make him that much more realistic?

Momma's Recommendation

I highly recommend this book to all readers, especially any reader who is looking for something a little bit different than the normal story of insta love with a billionaire bad boy!

Synopsis
**This standalone debut novel was inspired by actual events.**
Sember is a strong-willed attorney who’s got it all: the budding career, the condo, and a marriage proposal right around the corner.
When her sister, Sarah, needs a new attorney, Sember is torn. She wants to help Sarah, but she is terrified her emotions could compromise the case. With so much at stake, failure isn't an option.
In walks Jax Alexander, a brilliant legal mind from New York who excites Sember’s body and mind. When he offers to take on Sarah’s case, he provides hope in a hopeless situation. Sember and Jax are thrust together as their passion ignites.
As a web of lies is exposed, Jax works tirelessly to reveal the truth behind Sarah’s case. But, he has a dark secret shadowing his past that threatens to destroy everything.
In the midst of so many lies, can Jax really be trusted? His secret could put Sarah’s case in jeopardy and could cost Sember her life. Will he risk it all to save them, or will he cut and run, leaving destruction in his wake?
Sometimes, desperate acts call for desperate measures.
