Momma's Rating

Five Holy Shit Stars!

Momma's Review

I've always had a love of dark romances so when I heard about this new anthology, Sinister Desires, I practically tripped over myself to get a copy.  I plan on reading each and every book included in this set but today I'm going to give my review of the first three I had a chance to read.  And I can tell you, if all of the books are as good as the first 3 I've read then this set is worth every fucking penny!

I first read Captive in the dark by CJ Roberts almost 2 years ago and it was the book that started my love of dark romance novels and is still standing as my favorite series of all time.  I mean come on......it's Caleb.....yummy!  I decided to re-read it from this set and yup, it's totally still my favorite!  The second book I chose to read was Empathy by Ker Dukey.  I had no idea what a freaking amazing author I had been missing out on all this time!  The book was fabulous and Ker Dukey has a permanent spot on my must read author list.  So of course the third book I chose was Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom.  Holy Shit!  These ladies know how to write.

I can't recommend this anthology enough.  If you love dark reads then you must go one click RIGHT NOW!  But please, heed the warnings on this series.  It is dark and some book push boundaries on taboo.  It happens to be my favorite genre but it's not for everyone!

Captive in The Dark by CJ Roberts
(review originally published 4/20/13)

Where to start with this book?!? Ok, I totally loved it, and I'm not ashamed to say it....well maybe a little ;) I picked up Captive in the Dark one night while having a one-click problem and knew absolutely nothing about it. I think I'm glad I didn't because I may have been hesitant to start it and missed the awesome sexiness that is Caleb! He's mean, he's hot, he's caring, he's dominant, he's pissed off and in his odd way he's loving. Which is not what I expected from him at all.

I feel like I shouldn't have liked it, like I shouldn't have been rooting for her to stay...seriously! Every part of my female brain should have been screaming RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND NEVER LOOK BACK, but every bone in my body wanted her to stay, to see what he would do next, to see where it would lead! And I wasn't disappointed.

Empathy by Ker Dukey

I absolutely LOVE a twisting plot line and that was exactly what I got with Empathy!  From the start of the book I fell in love with the authors writing style, it seemed to flow so well and her POV from each different character was spot on.  The story is on the shorter side at right around 200 pages but it made for an amazing, quick moving read that left me wanting more immediately after.  I was even more excited to find out that the second book in the series came out just after I finished reading so I totally one clicked that bitch!  Oh and did I mention the heat in this book?  Holy hot car sex batman!  You will not be left disappointed with this one!

Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom

Ok...seriously?  I haven't been this freaked out while reading a book since the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig.  Every time you think you have the damn thing figured out you get slapped in the face again.  I'm one of those readers that is constantly trying to figure out the next move, the problem is that sometimes I can ruin an ending for myself... I was COMPLETLY blindsided this time!  Façade was absolutely brilliant.  I couldn't tell who was crazier...the characters or me after reading this book!
