?She?s beauty for my ashes. And I?m hope for her heartache.??Cole Danzer

Pocketful-of-Sand250

I don?t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don?t know. I don?t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other?s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine?ours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Five Holy Shit Stars!

Momma's Review

I've always had a love of dark romances so when I heard about this new anthology, Sinister Desires, I practically tripped over myself to get a copy.  I plan on reading each and every book included in this set but today I'm going to give my review of the first three I had a chance to read.  And I can tell you, if all of the books are as good as the first 3 I've read then this set is worth every fucking penny!

I first read Captive in the dark by CJ Roberts almost 2 years ago and it was the book that started my love of dark romance novels and is still standing as my favorite series of all time.  I mean come on......it's Caleb.....yummy!  I decided to re-read it from this set and yup, it's totally still my favorite!  The second book I chose to read was Empathy by Ker Dukey.  I had no idea what a freaking amazing author I had been missing out on all this time!  The book was fabulous and Ker Dukey has a permanent spot on my must read author list.  So of course the third book I chose was Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom.  Holy Shit!  These ladies know how to write.

I can't recommend this anthology enough.  If you love dark reads then you must go one click RIGHT NOW!  But please, heed the warnings on this series.  It is dark and some book push boundaries on taboo.  It happens to be my favorite genre but it's not for everyone!

Captive in The Dark by CJ Roberts
(review originally published 4/20/13)

Where to start with this book?!? Ok, I totally loved it, and I'm not ashamed to say it....well maybe a little ;) I picked up Captive in the Dark one night while having a one-click problem and knew absolutely nothing about it. I think I'm glad I didn't because I may have been hesitant to start it and missed the awesome sexiness that is Caleb! He's mean, he's hot, he's caring, he's dominant, he's pissed off and in his odd way he's loving. Which is not what I expected from him at all.

I feel like I shouldn't have liked it, like I shouldn't have been rooting for her to stay...seriously! Every part of my female brain should have been screaming RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND NEVER LOOK BACK, but every bone in my body wanted her to stay, to see what he would do next, to see where it would lead! And I wasn't disappointed.

Empathy by Ker Dukey

I absolutely LOVE a twisting plot line and that was exactly what I got with Empathy!  From the start of the book I fell in love with the authors writing style, it seemed to flow so well and her POV from each different character was spot on.  The story is on the shorter side at right around 200 pages but it made for an amazing, quick moving read that left me wanting more immediately after.  I was even more excited to find out that the second book in the series came out just after I finished reading so I totally one clicked that bitch!  Oh and did I mention the heat in this book?  Holy hot car sex batman!  You will not be left disappointed with this one!

Façade by Ker Dukey & DH Sidebottom

Ok...seriously?  I haven't been this freaked out while reading a book since the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig.  Every time you think you have the damn thing figured out you get slapped in the face again.  I'm one of those readers that is constantly trying to figure out the next move, the problem is that sometimes I can ruin an ending for myself... I was COMPLETLY blindsided this time!  Façade was absolutely brilliant.  I couldn't tell who was crazier...the characters or me after reading this book!

Synopsis:

Stella Brady was the epitome of indulgence. With a history of seducing gorgeous men, wrecking hotel rooms and provoking scandalous rumors, fame rewarded her extravagant behavior. Nothing was off limits when it came to gratifying her desires, except the one thing she craved most of all-anonymity.
In a strange twist of fate, a tragic accident robs Stella of all memories past the age of seventeen and she must reconcile the person she has become with the phantom of who she is supposed to be.
Trapped in a limbo of his own, Navy officer Julian Moreau has taken leave and returned to his childhood home in order to care for his dying mother. Growing restless with a life on hold, nothing could prepare him for the impossible. Stella Brady had returned to Mooresville.
Despite a decade of separation and hopeless circumstances, neither is able to deny the irresistible attraction and connection they share. As each layer of the past unravels, they must decide if falling in love could lead to a lifetime of happiness, or one worth forgetting.

Momma's Review

I was so excited when I was offered a chance to be one of the first people to read Forgetting by J.L. Brooks.  Not only is she one of my favorite authors but she is also one of my favorite people in this crazy book world, so of course I jumped at the chance.  To say that I have been in a reading funk would be an understatement.  I haven't been able to complete a book in over 6 months :::gasp::: but this book just blew through all of my reading barriers and gave me my love of reading back not only that but I wanted to blog again!

Forgetting is one of those books that no matter what your mood you'll find yourself getting sucked in.  My absolute favorite fact was that it was so real.  I never felt like the characters were being forced to do what the author wanted but instead it flowed beautifully and felt authentic.  It really truly is a great adult romance read.  And that ending...gah...talk about not seeing that coming!  I may or may not have sent her nasty gram after that one.

It's not just a romance novel and it's not just about finding ones self after getting off course, it's a wonderful merge of both.  We get to see Stella grow in so many ways and finally see things for what they really are, not how she had perceived them.

Forgetting by J.L. Brooks is a brilliantly written story of love, loss and finding your way home.

Momma's Reccomendation

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a good romance novel with second chance love.  The steam factor is there but it isn't a  "smutty" book by any means.  Just enough sex to keep you excited but not too much!
